Fullerene is a carbon allotrope. Any substance composed of carbon in a spherical, elliptical, or tubular structure is considered a fullerene. Fullerene has a structure similar to graphite, but graphite only has six-membered rings, while fullerene may have five-membered rings.
Fullerene is poorly soluble in most solvents and is typically dissolved in aromatic solvents such as toluene and benzene, or the non-aromatic solvent carbon disulfide.
Fullerene C60, a prominent member of the fullerene family, is a spherical 32-hedron composed of 60 carbon atoms connected by 20 six-membered rings and 12 five-membered rings, closely resembling the structure of a soccer ball. Its unique structure and remarkable properties have attracted the attention of scientists worldwide.

Due to its excellent properties (or functions) such as light capture, light absorption, superconductivity, DNA affinity, electron acceptor, adsorption, and intercalation, Fullerene C60 has been widely used in various fields, including daily cosmetics, pharmaceutical intermediates, rubber and film material modifiers, high-tech new energy, and composite material additives.
Fullerene and carbon nanotubes have unique chemical and physical properties and potential technological applications, particularly in materials science and electronics. Due to their affinity for groups, water-soluble fullerenes can be dispersed in cosmetics.
Fullerene derivatives can form covalent or non-covalent complexes with electron-rich groups such as porphyrins and ferrocene for molecular research, charge transfer, photoinduced charge transfer, and solar cells.
